Can We Do Intelligent Design Better than the Intelligent Designers?

There’s an interesting question.  It’s worth exploring.

The actual research in intelligent design is essentially zero.  The peer-reviewed research is zero.

Sure there are lots of books.

But what are the doing?

Nothing.

Can a small group of scientists actually start from nothing… create a coherent and testable hypothesis and show it once and for all?

The answer is ‘yes’.  Of course.

“Real” ID advocates will complain that it’s not the real ID.  I can hear them now, “ID doesn’t say that.”  waaaaaahhhhhh

Of course, what does ID actually say?  Somehow, someone or something, did something at some point in time (or maybe ongoing) to make things the way they are now.

Yes, I’m paraphrasing.  But that’s the point.  I’ve heard ID advocates say that the entire universe and everything in it was specifically designed (including each individual organism). I’ve heard ID advocates say that only certain complex protein sequences were designed.  I’ve heard ID advocates say that only living things were designed.  I’ve heard ID advocates say that only the first living thing of each species was designed.  etc. etc. etc.

So, that’s the question?  Can we come up with a testable, coherent, consistent hypothesis for intelligent design?

*Of course* we can come up with a testable, coherent, consistent hypothesis for intelligent design. All we need to do is work up a Designer hypothesis that contains sufficient detail that we could actually *tell* whether or not the hypothesized Designer, er, Designed a particular whatzit. This sort of thing is the bread-and-butter of at least two entire fields of science, those being forensics and archæology.
Of course, ID-pushers can’t do that, because ID-pushers are (to all appearances) lethally allergic to either providing details or to testing their hypotheses…
