What Have We Done

I get depressed thinking about the current state of affairs.  Millions of people in the US are being conned by politicians, by religions, by faith healers, and by everything else.  We, as a species, have lost the ability to think critically… to compare without bias our beliefs to reality.

There is a surge in faith healers and the mere fact that Gingrich is being considered for president is enough to churn my stomach.

The human species is the pinnacle of evolution.  Our mind is the greatest power so far discovered in the universe, capable of completely subduing the Earth in less than 100,000 years.  We can even control each other with a disgusting degree of ability.

Oh wait…

That’s all wrong.  The majority of humans have never contributed to the take over of the Earth.  The majority of humans have never invented anything.  The majority of humans have never discovered anything.  The majority of humans have never done anything except take what was handed to them.

The discoverers, the adventurers (no, not Bear Grylls), the thinkers are very rare.  We all stand on the shoulders of these men and women that discovered things for us.

It only took one smart monkey to sharpen a stick and use it to kill food.  Then everyone copied it.  It only took one smart monkey to invent the computer ship and then everyone copied it.  It only took one smart monkey to invent religion, then everyone copied it.

The world is full of 7 billion rubes and those few people that are actually discovering things… and those even fewer people who are taking advantage of the other 7 billion.

Those few who are taking advantage of us have power all out of proportion with their contributions to society and the human species.  Of course, they are not interested in changing the system that they are benefiting from.

sigh…
