Transformers and Animals??!!!??

I just watched Transformers: Dark of the Moon.  It was OK, certainly better than 2 and probably better than 1.  Of course, that’s roughly equivalent to being the best hockey player in all of Ecuador.

What I found really interesting is the “animal cruelty” statement at the end of the film.  Normally it says “no animals were harmed in the making of this film” or something similar.

In DotM, the statement says:

The Humane Society monitored some scenes with animals.  No animals were harmed in the making of those scenes.

Now, that’s very specific in a very curious way.

Did the Humane Society just not observe some filming and ‘certify’ the animals’ safety?

Were animals harmed in some scenes, just not those when the Humane Society was present?

Is this the standard disclaimer now?

I’m very curious.

    “Monitored Acceptable” apparently means:
Safety Representatives were not able to monitor every scene in which animals appeared. However, American Humane Association oversaw significant animal action filmed in compliance with our PA-FILM-guidelines. After screening the finished product and cross-checking all animal action supervised during production, we acknowledge that the filmmakers have cooperated fully with our process.

I didn’t find that website in my search, many thanks for the link.
